Quality Control as Standard: Why Every PV Installation Must Be Checked

A PV system not properly checked during installation becomes a risk – for the customer and for the installation company. Complaints, water damage, and performance losses can be avoided through systematic quality control. This checklist covers the most important inspection points.

Checklist: Roof Mounting

  • Roof hooks fastened with correct torque
  • Tiles undamaged and lying flat after hook installation
  • Mounting rails straight and securely screwed
  • Module clamps secured with correct tightening torque
  • Mounting frame continuously and correctly grounded

Checklist: Cable Routing on the Roof

  • Cables secured with UV-resistant cable ties
  • No contact between cables and sharp edges
  • Sufficient bending radius at all deflection points
  • Cables not under tension – loops provided for length compensation
  • Positive and negative cables routed separately (fire protection)

Checklist: Roof Penetration

  • Penetration lying flat on the tile
  • No visible gap between penetration and tile surface
  • Overlap with the tile above correct
  • Cables firmly seated in the penetration, no movement possible
  • Correct variant installed (number of cables matches string planning)
  • Penetration length matches the roof structure

Why the penetration deserves special attention

  • Open-circuit voltage of each string measured and documented
  • Short-circuit current of each string measured
  • Insulation resistance checked

Don't Forget Documentation

All inspection steps should be documented – as proof to the customer and as security in the event of a warranty claim. Photos of critical points (especially roof penetration and cable routing) belong in every acceptance protocol.
