Securing PV cables on the roof is a step that is often overlooked in practice. However, cable routing is crucial for the longevity, safety, and maintainability of the entire system. Loose cables chafe, flap in the wind, and pose a potential fire hazard.
Requirements for Cable Fastening
- UV Resistance: All fastening materials must be permanently UV-stable
- Strain Relief: Cables must not be under mechanical tension
- Separation of Plus and Minus: Separate routing for fire protection reasons
- Bending Radius: Observe the cable's minimum bending radius
- No Sharp Edges: Chafing points will eventually lead to insulation damage
Comparison of Fastening Methods
UV-Resistant Cable Ties
The most commonly used method. Black cable ties with UV stabilization secure the cables to the mounting rails. Advantages: inexpensive, quick, flexible. Disadvantage: Must be regularly checked for brittleness.
Stainless Steel Cable Clamps
Stainless steel clamps are screwed directly to the mounting rails. They offer permanent, mechanically resilient fastening. Disadvantage: Higher installation effort and costs.
Cable Ducts Under the Modules
Enclosed cable ducts offer the best protection against UV, wind, and mechanical damage. They are particularly suitable for longer cable runs. Disadvantage: More complex installation and restricted access for maintenance.

From the Roof Through the Roof: The Critical Transition
Even the tidiest cable routing on the roof is of little use if the penetration into the building interior is not sealed. At the transition between the roof surface and the inside of the roof, a professional roof penetration is needed to guide cables safely and weatherproofly through the roof skin.
