Properly Planning a PV System: Step by Step
Careful planning is the cornerstone of any successful photovoltaic installation. From the initial roof measurement to the final cable routing, numerous details determine the efficiency and longevity of the system.
Step 1: Roof Measurement and Analysis
Before module planning, the roof must be precisely measured. This involves documenting the area, pitch, orientation, and potential shading. The roof covering also plays a role, as it determines the choice of mounting system and roof penetrations.
Step 2: Module Layout and String Planning
The module arrangement follows the available area and the desired power output. String planning determines which modules are connected in series. This results in the number of solar cables that need to be routed from the roof into the building.
Step 3: Planning Cable Routing
Cable routing is an often underestimated planning step. Important questions include:
- How many cable pairs need to go through the roof?
- Is a separate grounding cable required?
- Which roof penetration length suits the roofing?
- Where is the optimal position for the penetration?
Choosing the Right Roof Penetration
NEXCAPE offers roof penetrations made of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) in six variants: 2 PV, 2 PV+PE, 4 PV, 4 PV+PE, 6 PV, and 6 PV+PE. The PE variants include an additional opening for the grounding cable. Available in lengths of 105 mm, 125 mm, and 150 mm, they cover all common roof structures.
Step 4: Installation and Sealing
During installation, the penetration is placed between the roof tiles. Thanks to tool-free assembly, elaborate drilling or cutting is eliminated. The MC4 connector does not need to be removed, which significantly speeds up the installation process.
Avoiding Planning Errors
Common errors in cable routing include too few planned penetrations, incorrect length selection, and missing grounding openings. Planning with the right accessories from the start saves rework and costs.
