Roof penetration for Braas tiles: How to find the right size
Braas is one of the leading roof tile manufacturers in Germany. Whether it's the Frankfurter Pfanne, Tegalit, or Harzer Pfanne – Braas tiles can be found on millions of German roofs. For solar installers, the question for every project is: Which roof penetration fits which Braas model?
Why size matters
A penetration that is too short will not seal properly, while one that is too long will protrude and interfere with the roofing. The correct length depends on several factors:
- Tile profile: Height of waves and folds
- Battens: Spacing and thickness of the roof battens
- Overlap: How far the tiles overlap each other
- Roof pitch: Steeper roofs often require longer penetrations
NEXCAPE lengths for Braas tiles
NEXCAPE offers roof penetrations made of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) in three lengths:
| Length | Suitable for |
|---|---|
| 105 mm | Flat tiles, low overlap, moderate roof pitch |
| 125 mm | Frankfurter Pfanne, standard Braas models, medium pitch |
| 150 mm | High overlap, steep roofs, thicker battens |
Recommendations for common Braas models
As a guide for selection:
- Braas Frankfurter Pfanne: In most cases, the 125 mm variant is suitable. For steep roofs (over 40°), the 150 mm version may be appropriate.
- Braas Tegalit: The flatter concrete tile often works with 105 mm.
- Braas Harzer Pfanne: Similar to the Frankfurter Pfanne — 125 mm is the safe choice.
- Braas Taunus Pfanne: Depending on the roofing, 105 or 125 mm.
Practical tip: If in doubt, measure the height from the bottom edge of the roof batten to the top edge of the installed tile. Choose the next larger length.
Tool-free installation on Braas tiles
NEXCAPE penetrations are installed without tools. The Braas tile is removed, the TPU penetration is inserted, and the PV cables are threaded through. No drilling, no sealing, no MC4 removal. The flexible TPU structure adapts to the respective Braas profile.
Choose string variants
Depending on the system size, penetrations for 2, 4, or 6 PV strings are available – each also with a separate earth cable opening (PE variant). All variants are manufactured using 3D printing in Germany.
From 20 pieces, B2B volume discounts apply for installation companies.
