The right length: Crucial for a clean tile overlap
Even the highest quality roof penetration is useless if its length doesn't match the tile, as the upper tile won't overlap it cleanly. NEXCAPE offers its TPU PV roof penetrations in three lengths: 105 mm, 125 mm, and 150 mm. This guide will help you make the right choice.
What determines the required length?
The length of the roof penetration must match the cover width of the roof tile. Two factors are decisive:
- Overlap: The overlying tile must completely cover the top edge of the penetration.
- Cable exit: At the bottom edge, there must be enough space for a clean cable exit.
If the penetration is too short, it won't extend far enough under the upper tile, allowing rainwater to enter. If it's too long, it will butt against the next crossbar and cannot be laid cleanly.
Recommendations by tile type
105 mm – The Compact One
Suitable for small-format tiles with a narrow cover width:
- Beaver tail tiles
- Small reform tiles
- Slate substitute panels
These tiles typically have cover widths under 200 mm. The 105 mm version offers the appropriate proportion here.
125 mm – The Standard
The best-selling length, suitable for the majority of German roof landscapes:
- Frankfurter Pfanne and similar concrete roof tiles
- Standard clay roof tiles (e.g., Nelskamp Finkenberger)
- Medium-sized flat roof tiles
Cover widths of 200–280 mm are optimally covered with 125 mm. If in doubt, this length is usually the right choice.
150 mm – The Large One
For large-format tiles and special coverings:
- Large-area tiles (e.g., Nelskamp Nibra DS 5)
- Large-format plain tiles (e.g., Creaton Domino)
- Tiles with particularly wide coverage
For cover widths over 280 mm, the 150 mm version provides the necessary length for the upper tile to completely cover the penetration.
Overview table
| Length | Tile Cover Width | Typical Tile Types |
| 105 mm | Under 200 mm | Beaver tail, small reform tiles |
| 125 mm | 200–280 mm | Frankfurter Pfanne, standard tiles |
| 150 mm | Over 280 mm | Large-area tiles, plain tiles |
Practical tip: When in doubt, choose the next larger length
If the cover width falls between two lengths, we recommend the larger option. A little more overlap doesn't hurt – too little overlap, on the other hand, is a risk. The flexible TPU material of NEXCAPE penetrations adapts easily even with a greater length.
All variants available in all lengths
All cable configurations – 2 PV, 2 PV+PE, 4 PV, 4 PV+PE, 6 PV, 6 PV+PE – are available in all three lengths. They are manufactured using 3D printing in Germany from high-quality TPU. B2B quantity discount from 20 pieces.
